Bagbera is a census town situated in the Purbi Singhbhum or East Singhbhum district in the state of Jharkhand in India. The state of Jharkhand has a total of twenty-two districts and East Singhbhum is one of them. It was born on the 16th of January 1990. The word Singhbhum literally means the land of the lions (Singh in Hindi means a lion and Bhum signifies land). The name seems to be a perfect match for the place as more than 50% of the district is covered by impenetrable forests and mountains, where wild animals once moved about freely. The district is surrounded by the Midnapore district (of West Bengal) on the east, the Purulia district (also belonging to West Bengal) on the north, the West Singhbhum district of Jharkhand state on the west, and the Mayurbhanj district of Orissa on the south. East Singhbhum district acquires a notable position in Jharkhand state with respect to mining and other industrial activities. The district headquarters of Purbi Singhbhum or East Singhbhum district are located at Jamshedpur, an important industrial city of India.

As per the 2001 India census, Bagbera has a population of 67,100. Males make up 52% of the population and females comprise 48%. The town has a mean literacy rate of 66%, higher than the national average of 59.5%. 59% of the males and 41% of the females are literate. 14% of the population comprises children below six years of age.
