Ayakudi is located at Dindigul district in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu. It is a panchayat town situated close to Palani at a distance of 3 kms. The place is known for Lord Muruga Temple. Kodaikanal hill station is at a distance of 60 kms. The town is divided into Old Ayakudi and New Ayakudi by a pond.
Economy of Ayakudi
Agriculture is the main source of income for the residents of Ayakudi. They specialise in cultivation of fruits especially guava. The fruits are also sold in the market as well as in other parts of the India. They are also exported to other countries. Apart from guava the town also cultivates lime, mango, sugarcane, paddy and cotton.
Ayakudi is resided by people from different communities. The females of the town are mostly engaged in teaching profession.

Ayakudi has established several schools and colleges to promote education. There are private primary schools and government primary schools in the town. A higher secondary school known as Irrumai Thankiya Obala Kondamma Naiyakan was established by Ayakudi Jamindar. A matriculation school known as Vivekanada Vidhyala also has been set up here. Akshaya Academy, Government Girls and Boys Schools, Devi Matriculation School are established in Palani close to the town. Besides these schools Ayakudi has also set up some colleges such as APA College for Ladies, Arulmigu Palani Andavar Arts and Science College, Subramianaia Engineering College, APA polytechnic.
Pilgrimage Centres in Ayakudi
Ayakudi is an important pilgrimage centre visited by several devotees. Some of the significant temples here are Batra Kaliamman Temple, Ponnalagu Amman Temple, Mariamman Temple, Vinayagar Temple, Alagu Natchiamman Temple, Karupanasamy Temple, Eswaran Temple. The town also has churches and mosques. During the months from March to June several festivals are celebrated in Ayakudi.
