Ashok Ghosh was an Indian Politician and a senior leader of All India Forward Bloc political party and was an ardent follower of Subhash Chandra Bose’s political ideology.

Ashok Ghosh, Indian PoliticianAshok Ghosh (2nd July 1921 - 3rd March 2016) was an Indian Bengali politician and a senior leader of All India Forward Bloc political party. He held the position of the State General Secretary of Forward Bloc in West Bengal from 1946 until his death in 2016. Ashok Ghosh gained prominence as a leader who led several mass movements and along with the Communists threw a challenge to the then ruling Congress regime in the state.

Political Career of Ashok Ghosh
Ashok Ghosh was a follower of Subhash Chandra Bose"s political ideology. He was drawn towards politics and freedom struggle after being influenced by the leadership of Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose. He became a General Secretary of All India Forward Bloc, West Bengal in 1946. From that time on he was in that position without any interruption until his death in 2016. The veteran Forward Bloc leader played a vital role in the formation of the first Left Front government in West Bengal.

After the Indian general election of 1989, he voiced his opposition to the then coalition government. Ashok Ghosh along with Marxist stalwarts like the late Jyoti Basu and Pramod Dasgupta had played a vital role in the formation of the first Left Front government in the State in 1977 which was in power till 2011. After the Nandigram violence (2007), Ashok Ghosh convened an all political party meeting in Kolkata.

Illness and Death of Ashok Ghosh
In February 2016, Ashok Ghosh was admitted in a private hospital in South Kolkata, following respiratory problems. He died at a hospital in Kolkata on 3rd March 2016 due to multiple organ failure. He was 94.
