Aparna Chandra, Indian Fashion DesignerAparna Chandra is a 1992 batch fashion design graduate of National Institute of Fashion Technology. She is one of India`s most promising & talented fashion designers working in the business today, with her own label retailing through a number of prestigious fashion outlets in the country.

While studying fashion designing at the National Institute of Fashion Technology, she was selected by the Late Rohit Khosla, who pioneered fashion in India, to intern with him. After graduating in 1992, she launched the `Apama Chandra` label. Since then she has integrated her influences and fine-tuned her vision, and today her signature style combines classic elegance and contemporary flare.

Personal life of Aparna Chandra
An ordinary life beset by extraordinary circumstances. A bedridden father unable to foster a little girl with the affection which was her due; a conservative mother intent on restricting a teenager`s bohemian spirit; A dream marriage darkened by the nightmare of divorce. An uphill struggle to make a mark in the man`s world that is Indian fashion. A sensuous public image tormented by personal doubts of being unattractive. A romantic denied love`s favour. But destiny`s greater designs notwithstanding, this unfettered spirit refuses to live life after a fashion. For, as Delhi Times discovers, Aparna Chandra has never lost the creativity to explore the possibilities of what can be.

Work of Aparna Chandra
Unaffected and understated, attractivebut never vulgar, with flawless cuts and an obsessive attention to detail her clothes today mirror her personality and stand distinctively apart from the me-too-breed of designers who have inundated the fashion market. Aparna`s highly individualistic fashion sensibility is well renounced. Very young and hip, her designs are simple, sensual and minimalist out with opulence, the screaming for attention look and in with a lot of skin, simple cuts and style. She describes her clothes as extremely wearable reflecting the personality of the wearer, asserting a quite, stylish and attractiveconfidence, a sharp whisper in a room full of loud people.

Aparna has tied up with the SAKS Group of Companies to manage and build her brand, execute business on her behalf, manage the merchandising, manufacturing and marketing and also work collaboratively in positioning the brand APARNA CHANDRA on a global scale. She is also a highly successful fashion stylist, and is responsible for the look of many high- profile advertising & promotional campaigns including `Ray-Ban`, `OCM Suitings`, `Orion Biscuits`, `The Hyatt Regency Hotel`, `Monte Carlo Sweaters`, `Van Heusen`, `Arrow`, `Gold Flake cigarettes`, `De Beers`, `Motorola`, `NumeroUno`, `Benetton`, `Seagrams`, `Whirlpool` amongst others.

LIFW 2002
Aparna`s creation focused on the use of fresh silhouettes in perma-pleated fabrics, feminine laces, sheer organza and opulent velvets were all put together with sparkling Swarovski crystals and simple yet effective embroidery techniques. Delicate drapes and rich brocade fabrics offset with bold plaids and attractivelaces created a confident mix of Oriental glamour and Victorian charm. Pencil skirts with net overskirts, asymmetric hem lines, godet skirts and tulle edges were seen with corsets and stretch lycra-lace blouses. The colour palette used strong reds, mid-night blacks, and pure whites along with subtle lilacs, greys and blues.

LIFW 2005
The collection had a very summery feel-there were chanderis, cottons and linens in lots of whites. The collection was designed for the contemporary Indian woman who likes to be simple, yet wants to make a statement and be noticed. There were lots of off-white silver embellishment kurtas, off stretch kurtas short pin stripe shirts and full-sleeved shirts.

Wills Lifestyle IFW 2006
The theme was Comfortably Chic. Aparna`s latest collection is a tasteful mix of her previously showcased designs. The collection features soft, feminine ensembles with lots of black and white in different forms. Typically, there is not much emphasis on embellishments. Instead pink, purple and orange accents have been put together with lots of silver.
