Annakoot Festival

Annakoot Festival is celebrated in the month of October after Diwali.

Annakoot Festival, Uttar PradeshAnnakut or Annakoot or Goverdhan puja, is a Hindu festival in which devotees organize and present a large assortment of vegetarian food to the murtis of Paramatma(God) as a mark of gratefulness. Annakoot Festival is celebrated among the people of Uttar Pradesh. The people of Uttar Pradesh celebrated this festival after Diwali that is on the first day of the full moon in Kartika month.

Celebration of Annakoot Festival
In Annakoot Festival, the common people of Uttar Pradesh worship Lord Krishna as Govardhana. It is also called Cow Dung Govardhana Puja. It is celebrated as an event in Krishna`s life in which he lifted the Govardhana Hill on his little finger for seven days, to protect the cows and people of Vrindavan against the deluge of rain sent by Lord Indra. On this day, the idols of Govardhana are made of cow dung and kept at the doorstep for every house. During the festival 56 types of non-veg food items are prepared and offered to Lord Krishna. After that, it is distributed among devotees.
