The Anna Science Centre was established on 10 June 1999 by the Government of Tamil Nadu. The planetarium caters to the needs of education for the younger generation as well as the general public. The planetarium has been a source of inspiration and information and welcomes students from different places. Groups of students from Pudukkottai District, Perambalur District, Dindigul District, Madurai District, Thanjavur District and Karur District frequently visit the planetarium.
The Planetarium, which has been a source of information and inspiration in the region, receives students in groups visiting from Pudukkottai, Karur, Madurai Districts apart from Tiruchirappalli.
Features of Anna Science Centre
Anna Science Centre has an Environment Gallery that depicts themes associated Bio-geochemical cycles, Eco systems, Bio diversity and Conservation. It also has an Edusat Facility, Vigyan Prasar as well as Try Science - Around the World. It is a system that contains all the details of the science centres in more than 50 countries. Anna Science Centre has software on Shark Island which is a 3D scientific movie. The educational facility was dedicated to the nation on April 22, 2006. The Planetarium Projector and its accessories have been donated by the Government of Japan under the Cultural Grant-in-aid Scheme. The planetarium also organises shows in both Tamil and English language.
