Anbumani Ramadoss has been the Union Minister of Health and Family Welfare of the Government of India. He belongs to the Pattali Makkal Party.

Anbumani Ramadoss Anbumani Ramadoss is a member of the Parliament from the Rajya Sabha. He has been the Union Minister of Health and Family Welfare of the Government of India from May, 2004 till he resigned his post in April 2009. Anbumani Ramadoss was born on 9 October 1968 in Puducherry. He is the son of the founder of the Pattali Makkal Party, Dr. S. Ramadoss and R. Saraswathi. He is married to Mrs Sowmiya and has three daughters Samyuktha, Sangamithra, Sanjuthra. He is a student of Madras Medical College and is a doctor by Profession.

Political Career of Anbumani Ramadoss
Anbumani Ramadoss is a member of the Pattali Makkal Party. At the time of induction into the Manmohan Singh cabinet of 2004, Dr. Anbumani Ramadoss was the youngest Cabinet Minister in the Union Cabinet. Following his stint as the Health Minister, he submitted his resignation to the Prime Minister along with Dr. R. Velu owing to party differences.

While serving as health minister, Dr. Ramadoss introduced rather strict controls on tobacco and alcohol sales advertisements in India. Under his leadership, the Health Ministry brought rules to ban smoking in public places (including work places), ban tobacco advertising, ban sale of tobacco products to minors and ban sale of tobacco products within 100 yards of educational institutions. He also advocated a ban on showing smoking or drinking in Movies and Television. Dr. Ramadoss started his public service as a medical practitioner in the rural areas near Tindivanam, Tamil Nadu. This experience led him to believe that the rural healthcare system needed to be improved substantially. As the Health Minister, he established the National Rural Health Mission in 2005 to provide primary care to rural poor with an emphasis on the needs of women and children. Anbumani Ramadoss

In his political career, Anbumani Ramadoss has attended the World Earth Summit in September 2002 in South Africa, the World Water Forum on February 2003 in Japan and in the very same year on December 2003, he visited New York (U.S.A.) to attend the UNECOSOC Conference. He attended the 15th International Conference at Bangkok in July 2004 and to attend the 22nd Health Ministers Meeting of SEAR, WHO, and the 57th Regional Committee Meeting of SEAR, WHO on September 2004, Maldives. He visited Tanzania to attend the 9th Meeting of the Global Fund to fight AIDS, TB and Malaria, November 2004. In 2003, he attended the course on Introductory Macro Economics at the London School of Economics (L.S.E.).

Currently, Ramadoss is the PMK Youth Wing President and is the leader of the Pasumai Thayagam (Green Motherland) movement, an NGO, engaged in environmental upgradation based in Tamil Nadu.
