The historical town of Amloh forms a part of Fatehgarh Sahib District in the state of Punjab, which forms a part of the Indian subcontinent. According to the census of 2001 Amloh had a population of 12,686. Faiz Baksh who was the governor of Sirhind originally founded the Amloh town. After the decline of Sirhind in the year 1763, the former ruler of the Nabha state annexed this beautiful town. Raja Hira Singh of Nabha also constructed the famous fort in this town. This town gained the status of Nizamat or District headquarters. After the creation of the Fatehgarh Sahib District in the year of 1992, Amloh was given the status of Sub Divisional headquarters. Some parts of the old building of the far famed fort are now under the control of the government officers. The major portion of this fort is however in a dilapidated position. The town of Amloh is also a block as well as Tehsil Headquarter and this block consist of 100 villages. The total area of the Amloh block is 26,893 hectares.
The main crops cultivated in the block of Amloh are paddy and wheat. A sugar mill has also started functioning recently in the town of Amloh due to which the cropping pattern of the block has changed. The Amloh block also has adequate irrigation facilities. There are also a number of banks in the Amloh block including 5 branches of Fatehgarh Sahib Central Coop. Bank Ltd. and 1 branch of Primary Agricultural Land Development Bank. The town of Amloh which has been overlooked in the past by the governments will not only revive its old glory but will also be developed as one of the most beautiful towns of the Indian state of Punjab according to the parliamentary secretary, Home Justice and Sainik Welfare, Mr. Sadhu Singh Dharamsot. The town which remained neglected during the days of SAD rule will now regain its past magnificence and splendor.
