Amanatulla Khan Hubab
Amanatulla Khan Hubab was an Urdu dramatist associated with Parsi theatre
Amanatulla Khan Hubab was an Urdu dramatist. The prefaces to his play Sulemanishamshir i.e. "Sulemzris Sword" in 1906 mentions Haswa in Fatehpur district, in the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh. This was his birthplace. After the death of Maharaj Kumar in 1881, the ruler of Rewa district in Madhya Pradesh moved to Jabalpur in the same province. The Original Theatrical Company had camped there and its owner Kaoosji Pestonji, in search of new plays and playwrights, asked Hubab to write a script for them. The result was his first drama, Sharar-e-ishq i.e. "Spark of Love" in 1881. This was the company both staged and published in Gujarati script. The tone of Hubab`s references to the owners in its preface suggests that he was an employee. However, by 1904-5, he seems to have moved to the Alfred Theatrical Company, for according to one source Hubab arrived in Rampur in Uttar Pradesh along with the Alfred and stayed on as the munshi of Nawab Hamid Ali Khansaheb Bahadur`s official troupe. Amanatulla Khan Hubab expired in the year 1911.
