Administration of Wardha district is the duty of the District Collector. The Collectorate is headed by the District Collector / Magistrate who is in charge of Revenue Administration within the district and coordinates the functioning of all other state Government departments within the district. The Collector has different branches or departments which are headed by various officers of the rank of Deputy-Collector or Tahasildar. District Collector is supported by the Additional Collector who looks after few branches of the office.
The functions of the District Collector are as follows:
•Maintenance of Law and Order.
•Natural Calamities.
•Issuing/renewal Arms Licenses.
•Issuing/renewal Hotel Licenses.
•Assistance to the Freedom Fighters.
•Cinema Theatres Licenses
The Police department maintains the law and order in the district headed by the Superintendent of Police. The police remain on high alert throughout the year. All the religious functions, visits of VIPs, arrangement of various festivals, fairs, demonstrations, strikes, dharnas etc are to be monitored and controlled by the police.
The Zilla Parished exists in Maharashtra for the purposes of efficient development administration. In 1962, as per the Maharashtra Zilla Parishad and Panchayat Samiti Acts, Zilla Parishad and 7 Panchayat Samities were formed. Later on, in 15th August 1984, the 8th Panchayat Samiti Ashti was formed. At this moment, Wardha, Deoli, Seloo, Hinganghat, Samudrapur, Arvi, Karanja, and Ashti Panchayat Samities are working in the district. The working of the Zilla Parishad is carried out according to the Sthai Samit and Finance, Works, Agriculture, Education, Health, and Social Welfare Subject Samities. Administrative head of the Zilla Parishad is from I.A.S. cadre. The president of Zilla Parishad is elected by the people who have the major powers. Each Subject Samity has a Head called the `Sabhapati`.
Muncipal Councils
Arvi, Hinganghat, and Deoli Municipal Councils were established in the year 1867. Later Wardha, Pulgaon and Sindi Municipal Councils have been added to the district. All Municipal Councils are people-oriented and as much as things are covered in their working area. The seats are reserved for S.C. and S.T. The duration of the Municipal Council is for five years. It is divided in A, B, C categories. Wardha is in `A`, Arvi and Hinganghat are in `B` and remaining are in `C` category.
