The very popular soap 'India Calling' has created waves in the television industry by its different story telling approach and intense characterization. It is a much different from the typical 'saans-bahu' sagas which are aired on television in the recent times. It is a show, which is completely set on the backdrop of a call center, which is believed to be a very happening profession in today's world.
The story is about a simple and ordinary girl Chandni (played by Mansi Parekh) who hails from a small-town called Jalandhar in the Indian state of Punjab. She has an elder sister by the name of Manisha Kapoor who is putting up in the tinsel town. In mumbai she stays with her aunt or 'beeji'. After she lands up in Mumbai in the search of her sister she finds herself a job to sustain herself as well. But the fast pace and the hip crowd of the city life is something new and completely unadjustable to her. After taking up a job in the leading call center 'India Calling ' which is owned by Aditya Khanna (played by Vipul Gupta) she finds herself in a complete mess. Aditya is a completely different individual from her and is the city clicker, the snob whose grandfather has given him the whole authority of the call center. Aditya also has an elder brother called Vishesh who is married to Kamini. This story is based on the life of Chandni and her relationship with Aditya.
'India Calling' became an instant hit from the first day itself as the concept was fresh and is all about young people working in call centers. The serial takes the audience through a complete turn after the lead protagonist Chandni picks up an assignment at the 'India Calling' call center. It goes on to describe her new job and her instant romantic chemistry with Aditya. Besides Mansi Parekh and Vipul Gupta there were some other key characters at the call center like the team leader called Prashant, the taxi-driver called Patil and Tyson, the security head who gives a very realistic touch to the action.
This soap is completely packed with mass appeal and captures the vigorous spirit of the sunrise sector that is becoming a serious career option for an increasing number of young people. This soap is also regarded as one of the hundreds of prime time soap operas fueling the Hindi language entertainment channels of the Indian subcontinent. The producer of the serial Shrishti Arya claims that she had decided to set the show in a call center because the industry has propelled India into the global marketplace and the whole phenomenon has an outsize impact on middle-class culture. In the soap the main protagonist Chandni refuses to go by her adopted American name Kathy and refuses to go by the accent of the Americans. She claims that she is not ashamed to be an Indian. So it comes without any doubt that such a realistic show with such mind-blowing characters will top the charts.
