Dod Ballapur is a town in the Bangalore Rural district of the southern state of India, Karnataka. Bangalore is situated at a distance of 35 km. from Dod Ballapur.The place is easily accessible from other parts of the district. Dodballapur Railway Station on the Bangalore-Hindupur railway line is the nearest railway station and the Bangalore International Airport is the nearest airport.
According to the 2001 census report, Dod Ballapur had a population of 71,509. Males constitute 52% of the population and females constitute 48% of the population. In Dod Ballapur, 12% of the population is less than six years of age. The town has an average literacy rate of 68% which is higher than the national average literacy rate which is 59.5%. The male literacy rate is 73% while the female literacy rate is 62%.
The town is the home of many national and international industries. It is dotted with numerous temples like the famous Sri Venkateswara swamy temple, Chandra mouleeshwara temple, and the Sankara matha. The main attraction of the town include the Nandi hills. The town is well known for its silk weaving.
