Ballarpur Fort, also known as Balharshah Fort is the oldest area in Ballarpur, in Chandrapur district of Maharashtra. It was built by Gond King Khandkya Ballal Shah in 13th century on the banks of Wardha River. Even today the ruins of the old Balharshah Fort can be seen. Located on the banks of Wardha River, the Balharshah fort has been declared as an Ancient Monument by the Archaeological Survey of India.
History of Ballarpur Fort
The king of Ballarpur was Khandkya Balhar Shah. The town was named Balharshah after him. King Khandkya Balhar Shah shifted his capital from Sirpur to Balharshah in Middle Ages. He built Balharshah fort. Afterwards he shifted his capital to Chandrapur and erected another fort.
