Located in Bawangaja, one of the important Jain pilgrimages in India, in the state of Madhya Pradesh, the Adinath statue is an 84 ft tall megalithic statue of the first Jain Tirthankara, Lord Rishabhadeva. The statue is situated in the middle of the Satpura range, similar to that of the Gommateshwara statue of Lord Bahubali at Shravanabelagola. The Adinath statue will be a part of the 2020 Mahamastakabhisheka, which will be organised with an estimate of 1.5 million devotees reaching there.
Iconography of Adinath Statue
Lord Rishabhadeva’s idol is made out of brown stone and stands in the Kayotsarga posture; it is an important Jain yogic meditation posture. With a unique style, the hands of the idol are not joined with legs but are made separate. With a symmetrical image, the face of the idol also displays a balanced image of all emotions like joy, mercy and separation. On the left side of the Adinath statue is the 4 armed Gomukh Yaksha and on the right side is the 16 armed Yakshi Chakreshvary.
