Army’s Contribution to Adventure and Sports have always achieved medals and awards in adventure activities like sky-diving, para-sailing, mountaineering, etc.

ArmyThe Indian Army has a long standing tradition of fostering the spirit of adventure amongst all ranks and has been a role model for undertaking extreme adventure activities. Be it lofty heights of Himalayas or the mysterious depth of ocean, vast expanse of the sky and deserts or the closed confines of caves; Indian Army men have been the pioneers in adventure activities in all these spheres. Adventure constitutes an essential component of the military training since it helps in developing a sense of purpose, determination, courage and perseverance against all odds. Mountaineering, rock climbing, white water rafting, skiing, parachuting, kayaking are some sports activities, which also find operational use.

Awards for Indian Army Sportsmen
Indian Army has also taken upon itself the daunting task of raising the overall standards of sports and win medals at the international levels especially the Olympic Games. Thus “Mission Olympic” has been envisioned by the Army and selected sportsmen are being trained at Army sports nodes.

The Indian Army has given to the country, a fairly good number of world-class sportspersons. In the National Defence Academy, young officers in training are encouraged to choose from a whole host of activities like sailing, boxing, polo and many others. The point is to turn them into well rounded individuals with a wide range of interests and hobbies.
