Self massage is a great way to relax and invigorate oneself. Massage is one of the best antidotes to stress. Many women enjoy massaging their feet just because it feels so good. But other times, one may massage certain parts of the body because they are in pain. Massaging the shoulder muscles can relieve some headaches. Massaging the posterior neck muscles can relieve neck pain and stiffness. One can often get more relief from common pain problems with self-massage than from a massage therapist.
How to do Self Massage:
Massage can be used a number of ways. The self massaging techniques are as follows:
Take a warm bath, dry oneself off and then apply massage oil.
Rub the neck and shoulders by using the fingers in small and circular motions.
Gently knead the abdomen with fingers and thumb.
Massage the upper back with a ball and lower back with a foam roller.
Alternate between long strokes and small circles when massaging the arms and legs.
Press the palms and feet between the thumb and fingers. Massage them using the thumb.
Self Massaging might seem a good reason for rubbing ones own muscles. It’s probably muscle "knots" or trigger points; small patches of clenched muscle fibres that are sensitive and cause aching and stiffness. They may be a major factor in many common pain problems like low back pain and neck pain. Most minor trigger points are probably self-treatable. Self Massage with oil has wide-ranging health benefits. It is a way of exploring oneself.
The primary purpose of self-massage is to improve the flow and drainage of lymph by stimulating the lymphatic vessels. Body Parts that can be massaged by oneself are;
Head
Face
Neck
Arms
Shoulders
Low Back
Hips
Tummy
Abdomen
Legs
Foot
