 Manoj Bharathiraja is an Indian movie actor who has featured in several Tamil films. He is most noted as the son of critically acclaimed South Indian cinema director P. Bharathiraja. He made his acting debut in films in the year 1999, under his father’s directorial ‘Taj Mahal’, alongside debutante actress Riya Sen. The plot of the film revolved around two clashing communities and two lovers caught in the vortex of their rivalry, written by Mani Ratnam with music by A. R. Rahman. The film, however, failed to make any impact at the box office upon its 1999 Diwali release. Post that, Manoj has appeared in several different films.
Film Career of Manoj Bharathiraja Born on September 11, 1976 in the town of Theni, Tamil Nadu, Manoj Bharathiraja began his film career working as an assistant director under noted filmmaker Mani Ratnam, on the 1995 Tamil drama film ‘Bombay’. He also did a course in Theatre Arts at the University of South Florida, United States. Manoj Bharathiraja made his debut as an actor in 1999 with the Tamil film ‘Taj Mahal’, directed by his father, alongside Riya Sen who also made her debut. The film fared poorly at the box office upon release. Subsequently, Manoj appeared in films ‘Samuthiram’ alongside Sarath Kumar and Murali, and his father’s directorial ‘Kadal Pookkal’, sharing screen space with Murali again.  Though both the films became box office failures, they received much critical acclaim, particularly the latter for which P. Bharathiraja was awarded the National Film Award for Best Screenplay. He then played the lead role in Saran’s ‘Alli Arjuna’, alongside Richa Pallod, before starring in low budget productions ‘Varushamellam Vasantham’ and ‘Pallavan’. The films failed to achieve any commercial success. The actor later starred in his father’s directorial ‘Eera Nilam’, which received mixed reviews from critics. He also played a cameo role in Sathyaraj's ‘Maha Nadigan’ and the negative role in the Telugu film ‘Lemon’.
After 2005, Manoj faced a sabbatical as an actor and assisted his father in films like ‘Bommalattam’ that released in 2008. Since 2007, it has also been reported that Manoj was set to remake his father's 1978 Tamil psychological thriller ‘Sigappu Rojakkal’, which featured Kamal Haasan and Sridevi. However, the project remains still in pre-production. From 2008 till 2010, he assisted director S. Shankar in his magnum opus ‘Enthiran’. In 2012, his father signed him up to replace actor Ameer in his production ‘Annakodi’, as the antagonist, thus marking Manoj’s return to acting in films after a seven-year hiatus. Manoj also featured in the 2015 Tamil horror film ‘Baby’. He is subsequently to be seen in A. Senthil Kumar’s ‘Vaaimai’, inspired from the Hollywood classic ‘12 Angry Men’. 
Family and Personal Life of Manoj Bharathiraja Manoj Bharathiraja is the son of acclaimed South Indian movie director P. Bharathiraja and Chandraleela. He has one sister Janani Raaja Kumar. On November 19, 2006, Manoj married his long time girlfriend actress Nandana, who has appeared in Tamil films like ‘ABCD’, ‘Success’ and was his co-star in the 2005 film ‘Saadhuriyan’. The marriage was held at Ashirwad Marriage Hall at Kozhikode in Kerala, hometown of Nandana, whilst a grand reception took place on December 1, 2006 at Mayor Ramanathan Chettiar Hall in Chennai, Tamil Nadu. The couple, having two daughters Arthika and Mathivadani, resides in Chennai.
