Golyachi Amti is a Maharashtrian cuisine which is a Besan Kofta Curry and it is one of the exotic versions of Maharashtrian curry. Golyachi Amti is prepared by Maharashtrians. This vegetarian dish is indeed a delicacy from the region. It is a delicious dish especially, during rainy season with rotis and steamed rice. The 'Golyas' are made with Besan (gram flour). As it is made with besan, it is full of protein and good alternate for vegetables.
Ingredients:
Besan - 1 and 1/4 cup
Onion - 1, finely chopped
Garlic cloves - 4, minced
Ginger - 1 inch, grated
Green Chillies - 4, finely chopped
Turmeric Powder - 1/2 tsp
Curry leaves - 7 to 8
Cumin seeds - 1/2 tsp
Jaggery - 1 tbsp, grated
Tamarind Pulp - 1/2 tsp
Ajwain - 1/2 tsp
Oil - 3 tbsp
Dry grated Coconut
Salt to taste
Pinch of Asafoetida
Method:
Grind ginger, garlic and green chili to make fine paste.
Heat 1 tbsp oil in a pan and add 1 cup besan, 1/2 tsp ginger-garlic-green chili paste, salt, turmeric powder and ajwain.
Mix well and remove the lumps formed.
Afterwards, knead the dough by pouring water, which is little stiff than pakora batter.
Make balls out of the dough and keep aside.
Heat oil in another pan and add cumin seeds, curry leaves, asafoetida, onion and ginger-garlic-green chilli paste.
Saute until onion becomes translucent.
Meanwhile, mix besan in 4 cup of water well and add coconut, Haldi and salt, and mix well.
Add this mixture to the pan and boil the above curry, then add jaggery and tamarind pulp to it, and stir well.
Add besan balls to the curry and cook them for 8 minutes more and stir in between.
Serve hot besan kofta curry with chapati or plain rice.
