Deepti Divakar, also spelt Diwakar, is an Indian model and Former Miss India. She was Miss India first runner up and was crowned Miss India World in the year 1981. She has acted in few movies and authored two books. An award winning Bharathanatyam dancer, she has performed in India, Europe and the United States. She has earned several prestigious awards for her contribution in the field of literature.
Early Life and Education of Deepti Divakar
She was born in Bangalore, Karnataka, India. Her grandfather, Dr R.R. Diwakar, was India's first Information and Broadcasting minister and Governor of Bihar. She received her interior designing degree from Parsons School of Design, New York and University of California, Los Angeles. She received her Bachelor of Architecture degree from Bangalore University. She did a Master of Arts in Radio-Television from San Francisco State University.
Career of Deepti Divakar
Divakar essayed the lead role in a regional Indian feature film titled 'Simhasana' in Kannada language. She has worked in a Greek film in Athens, Greece, called 'Expotheriko'. She also worked in a Broadway show called 'Bombay to Broadway', in New York City in the year 1993. She was featured in a cover story of 'Eikones' magazine, in Athens, Greece, dancing at the Parthenon.
Apart from acting, Divakar has worked and contributed in the field of literature. She has written two books. She is listed in Who's Who in the World, Marquis Publishers, New Jersey, 2014. She was a contributing journalist for The Times of India and has published more than 55 articles of hers in the newspaper. She has also worked as a RJ for nearly 100 shows and has been an announcer in All India Radio. She has also worked as a guest lecturer in ‘Consciousness and Philosophy" in San Francisco. Divakar also works as a Meditation teacher and communication and public speaking coach.
Achievements of Deepti Divakar
She received a national award "Bharatha natyam Maharathnam" from World Development Parliament of West Bengal.
She won the President's Award for Literary Excellence, from National Authors' Registry of Michigan.
She won the JRD Tata National English Debating shield during her academic days.
She won the President's Award in America for her poetry.
