Shilpa Shukla is an Indian actress. She came into limelight after enacting the role of an arrogant and stubborn hockey player in the super hit film Chak De! India. Another prominent movie of hers is neo-noir film B.A. Pass, for which she was awarded the Filmfare Critics Award for Best Actress.
Early Life and Education of Shilpa Shukla
She was born on 22 February 1982 in a Bhumihar Brahmin family of Vaishali district. She was brought up in various places of India like New Delhi, Kolkata and Gujarat. She attended Delhi Public School, R. K. Puram, New Delhi till Class XII. She received her graduation degree from Miranda House, University of Delhi.
Career of Shilpa Shukla
Shilpa kick started her acting career with theatre under the guidance of eminent theatre actor and director M. K. Raina. Later she worked with Director Arvind Gaur of the Asmita Theatre Group. Some of her major plays include Mahesh Dattani's Final Solutions and Tara, Govind Deshpande's Antim Diwas, Ashok Lal's Ek Mamooli Aadmi, Girish Karnad's Rakt Kalyan (Taledanda) and Neil Simon's Log-Baag.
She made her film debut in the year 2003 with Sabiha Sumar directed Khamosh Pani. In the same year, she appeared in Sudhir Mishra's Hazaaron Khwaishein Aisi. She tasted success after playing an important character in the 2007 blockbuster Chak De! India. In this Shahrukh Khan starrer movie, she essayed the role of Bindia Naik who was an arrogant and stubborn hockey player. The film garnered her Filmfare Award nomination and also the National award consideration. In 2012, the film was named the Best Film in Indian Competition at the 12th Osian’s Cinefan Film Festival.
Her next venture was Hindi Neo noir film B.A. Pass directed by Ajay Bahl which released in 2013. The film won the Audience Choice Award at the South Asian Alternative Film Festival (SAAFF) in Paris, France.
