Murti, West BengalMurti is a small hamlet located in the northern part of West Bengal. The name of the small village "Murti" comes after the Murti River, which is flowing down from the Kalingpong hills.

Murti is situated on the bank of the River Murti, besides the Chapramari Wildlife Sanctuary and Gorumara National Park. Chapramari Wildlife Sanctuary and Gorumara National Park are located in this place. That is why the tourists are attracted. They are required to pass from this place.

One can visit the deep jungles of Chapramari Wildlife Sanctuary and Gorumara National Park by staying at Murti. With a short distance in Murti there has another river, called Panjhora River, a rain fed river. In winter season many people from Kolkata and adjacent states come here for picnic.

Besides that, Murti itself is a very pleasant traveller spot. In the river Murti, one can find out Gharials, because of the presence of Chapramari Wildlife Sanctuary and Gorumara National Park. The elephant are very much abundantly seen from the Forest Bungalow. Tourists can see Gour (Indian bison) and various types of deer and many other animals are also visible from the forest bungalow, which is one of the prime accommodations for visitor during the early morning and evening hours.

To visit Murti one can access through the National Highway No.31 in between Siliguri and Guwahati, which passes over Chalsa. From Chalsa to Murti, there is a district road, which adjoins Murti. A total road distance between Siliguri and Murti about 80 Km. North Bengal State Transport Corporation Buses, Bhutan Govt. Buses, Mini Buses and Private Buses are available from Siliguri to Chalsa and Murti. One can also hire some taxi or private car to visit Murti. The journey time from Siliguri to Murti is about 2 hours and 30 minutes. Nearest railway station to Murti is Chalsa. But all train is not arrived at Chalsa. New Jalpaiguri and Siliguri Railway Station are main railway station in this area. One need to change the train from New Jalpaiguri or can follow the road journey from New Jalpaiguri to Murti or from Siliguri to Murti. Nearest airport is Bagdogra. It is a domestic airport under Indian Army. All major air services are available from all over India. The distance between Bagdogra and Siliguri is 13 km.
