![]() Early Life of Caralisa Monteiro Caralisa Monteiro was born and brought up in Dadar which is a suburb of central Mumbai, Maharashtra. She grew up in a music environ with rhythms of modern Jazz and operatic strains of La Traviata. Her father had played the role of Marquis D’Obigny and her sister was an eminent vocalist. Caralisa Monteiro thus developed a deep penchant for music since a tender age. In early days she used to sing in the local choir and was involved with neighbourhood bands for handling vocal duties. Career of Caralisa Monteiro Caralisa Monteiro stepped into the Hindi film industry in the year 2001 when she was offered by the noted musical trio Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy for singing the chorus of the song ‘Jaane Kyon’ from the Bollywood flick Dil Chahta Hai. This marked to be the beginning of her career in the music industry following which she worked extensively with several music directors. She worked for many diverse projects including independent music, advertisement film commercials and movies. She has also performed in musical theatre. Her singing repertoire exhibits huge diversity encompassing Christmas records, mainstream Bollywood films and many more. Her voice appealed in movies like Anjaana Anjaani, Karthik Calling Karthik, Kabhi Alvida Na Kehna, Don 2, Rock On and many others. Caralisa Monteiro has sung for many acclaimed music directors of the country like Clinton Cerejo, Ram Sampath, Vishal-Shekhar, A. R. Rahman etc. Initially Caralisa Monteiro was recognized for singing the English parts in Hindi songs however she emerged out of her image in the movie Rock On!! by singing the song ‘Phir Dekhiye’. Her rendition received commendable appreciation for its soulfulness. She also bagged the opportunity of working with Karl Jenkins, the noted Welsh musician and composer and performed the track ‘Hymn’ for his project titled Adiemus: Songs of Sanctuary.
