Ehsaan Noorani is an Indian musician and a part of the feted musical trio Shankar Ehsaan Loy, abbreviated as SEL. His exceptional skills have rendered him a prominent recognition in the musical arena of the Hindi film industry. His forte encompasses infinite reservoir of melodic ideas, huge musical knowledge, instantaneous creation of melodious notes and expertise over both vocal and guitar which have enormously contributed in the success of the musical trio. His pursuit of creative excellence has always guided his way towards the acme of music industry in course of which he has gained knowledge from varied experiences.
Early Life of Ehsaan Noorani
Ehsaan Noorani was born on 12th October 1963. He was brought up in an environment where he got a close tryst with diverse genres of music since a young age. Thus he developed a keen interest in music right from his childhood. He began learning guitar in Mumbai under the tutelage of Bismarck Rodriguez at the age of 14. Later Ehsaan attended GIT viz. the Guitar Institute of Technology in USA, currently known as MI, between the period of 1985 and 1986. The turning point in his musical life arrived during this period as he began exploring his potentials as a guitarist. His learning experience in the institute greatly expanded his skills and he also got exposed to some of the stalwarts of music. Over time he greatly enhanced his improvisation and composition skills.
Career of Ehsaan Noorani
Ehsaan Noorani was deeply influenced by the popular bands of the 1970s such as Deep Purple, Pink Floyd and Led Zeppelin which inculcated in him a fascination for blues. However his inclination towards this genre still continues. He developed a strong blues vocabulary by continual listening which aided him in improvisation. Works of many great musicians moulded his musical skills and gradually helped him to develop an understanding for diverse genres. After returning to India Ehsaan Noorani began working on advertising commercials with composers like Louiz Banks. His catchy tunes, expertise in guitar and brilliant understanding of music notes soon earned him a position in the industry. Subsequently he started composing music for commercials individually.
Afterwards, Ehsaan Noorani collaborated with Shankar Mahadevan and Loy Mendonsa to form the musical trio Shankar Ehsaan Loy which created waves in Bollywood with their fresh and enchanting compositions. He also voiced many songs along with his partner Shankar Mahadevan including the songs `Yeh Dil Deewana` from Pardes, `Vande Mataram` from Phir Bhi Dil Hai Hindustani and `Mujhse Shaadi Karogi` from Dulhan Hum Le Jayenge. He has also rendered some of the finest guitar pieces for many Bollywood music directors. Ehsaan`s expertise comprises different genres like metal, country, rock and blues. Apart from films he also performs with his band titled Apostrophe. Ehsaan Noorani has also received a number of prestigious accolades as a part of the musical trio Shankar Ehsaan Loy for composing many brilliant songs for Hindi films.
