Early Life of Anu Malik
Anu Malik was born on 2nd November 1960 with the name Anwar Sardaar Malik. He is the son of noted Indian music director Sardar Malek. Anu Malik has learnt music under the expert tutelage of Pandit Ram Prasad Sharma. He made his debut in the film industry in the year 1977.
Career of Anu Malik
Anu Malik made his debut as a music composer in the year 1977 with the film Hunterwali. Following this he worked as a music director for a number of prominent films like Jeete Hain Shaan Se, Ganga Jamuna Saraswathi, Mard, Sohni Mahiwal and many more. Although he received recognition for his works, he could not manage to get much work during that era owing to the presence of noted music directors like R. D. Burman, Bappi Lahiri, Kalyanji-Anandji and Laxmikant-Pyarelal. FC Mehra's Eagle Films however always returned to him for his enchanting compositions. However breakthrough in Anu Malik's music career arrived with films like Viraasat, China Gate, Filhaal, Akele Hum Akele Tum, Baazigar and Border. His unparallel versatility in compositions and determination soon took him to the zenith in the film industry. He rose to further fame with Phir Teri Kahani Yaad Aayee, Khalnayak and a few more films in 1990s. His ventures in 2000s enlist movies like Mujhe Kucch Kehna Hai, Filhaal, Aks, Fiza etc. Anu Malik is known for his original melodies and instrumentation which makes his compositions quite unique.
Anu Malik's use of Tabla in hit songs like 'Mere Humsafar' and 'Taal Pe Jab' from the movie Refugee, 'Eli Re Eli' from Yaadein and 'Tumse Milke Dilka Jo Haal' from Main Hoon Na were greatly appreciated. Anu Malik has collaborated with a number of renowned singers like Alisha Chinai, Kumar Sanu, Alka Yagnik, Udit Narayan, Kavita Krishnamurthy, Sonu Nigam, K.K, Sunidhi Chauhan, Shreya Ghoshal and others. He also launched his daughter Anmol Malik with the song 'Bitiya Na Kijo' from Umrao Jaan. He also completed the unfinished film projects of Ghatak and Gang of R. D. Burman after the latter's death. He has also voiced many of his compositions such as 'Gori Gori' from Main Hoon Na, 'Ek Garam Chaye ki Pyali' from Har Dil Jo Pyar Karega, 'Oonchi Hai Building' from Judwaa and many more. He has also sung for his private albums like Dhua dhua, Tera Chehra, Dekho Barish Ho Rahi Hai and an English album, Eyes.
Anu Malik appeared on the television show Indian Idol in each of its season as one of the judges. He also judged the first Asian Idol organized in Indonesia and was the only judge from India in the same. In 2009 he became a part of the entertainment reality show Entertainment Ke Liye Kuch Bhi Karega as a judge which was aired on Sony Entertainment Television.
Achievements of Anu Malik
Anu Malik has bagged a number of awards for his music compositions. In 1994 he won the Filmfare Best Music Director Award for the movie Baazigar. In 2001 he was honoured with National Film Award for Best Music Direction and Filmfare Special Jury Award, both for the film Refugee. He won Star Screen Award Special Tribute - Artist of the Decade in 2004. In the following year, 2005, he received Zee Cine Award for Best Music Director, Star Screen Award for Best Music Director and Filmfare Best Music Director Award, all for the film Main Hoon Na. In the year 2010 he was honoured with the Asha Bhosle Award.
