The city and municipality of Chas is situated in the Bokaro district in the state of Jharkhand in India. Going by latitude and longitude, the exact location of Chas is at 23.63° North and 86.17° E. It has an average elevation of 210 meters (688 feet). Chas, according to the 2001 census has a population of 96,923. The population comprises 54% males, 46% females and 15% children less than 6 years of age. With 77% male literacy and 58% female literacy, the average literacy rate at 69% becomes higher than the national average of 59.5%.
