Early Life of Sreenivasan Sreenivasan was born in the year 1956 in a small village named Patyam situated in the North Malabar region of Kerala. He did his schooling from Government High School, Kathiroor and completed his graduation in Economics from Pazhassi Raja N.S.S. College, Mattannur. Sreenivasan also did a diploma course in film acting from the Madras Film Institute, Chennai in the year 1977. Career of Sreenivasan Sreenivasan made his cinematic debut in the year 1977 with P. A. Backer’s movie ‘Manimuzhakam’. At the institute he was trained by A. Prabhakaran who later offered him a role in the movie ‘Mela’. In the following years, he performed in several films and then wrote his first movie in 1984, named ‘Oodarathuammava Aalariyam’. Subsequently he wrote and acted in a number of movies including ‘Gandhinagar 2nd Street’, ‘Varavelpu’, ‘Nadodikkattu’ and its sequels namely ‘Pattanapravesham’ and ‘Akkare Akkare Akkare’. Sreenivasan’s directional ventures included movies like ‘Chinthavishtayaya Shyamala’ and ‘Vadakkunokkiyanthram’. He earned much praises for his acting through the films ‘Outsider’ in which he portrayed the role of a boat driver and ‘Athmakadha’ where he played the role of a blind man working in a candle manufacturing unit. His movies ‘Varavelpu’ and ‘Sandesham’ focused on the activities of the major political parties and unions of Kerala. Sreenivasan earned appreciations in comic role through the movies ‘Chithram’, ‘Nagarangalil Chennu Raparkam’, ‘Ponmuttayidunna Tharavu’, ‘Peyyunnu Maddalam Kottunnu’ and others. Sreenivasan also appeared in a weekly TV show called ‘Valiya Lokavum Cheriya Sreeniyum’ broadcasted on Kairali TV. Awards and Achievements of Sreenivasan Sreenivasan has been awarded with National Film Award for Best Film on Other Social Issues in 1999 for his movie ‘Chinthavishtayaya Shyamala’. Apart from this, he also received 8 Kerala State Film Awards and 8 Asianet Film Awards. Sreenivasan was also honoured with Bahadoor Award for his contributions to Malayalam cinema and Asiavision Movie Award for Lifetime Achievement in the year 2008 and 2010 respectively.
