![]() From 1874, Andaman and Nicobar Islands is the territory of India. It was headed by a Chief Commissioner as its judicial administrator. On 1 August 1974, the Nicobar Islands were hived off into another revenue district with district headquarters at Car Nicobar under a Deputy Commissioner. After eight years, in 1982, the post of Lieutenant Governor was created who replaced the Chief Commissioner as the head of administration. Subsequently a "Pradesh council" with representatives of the people was formed to advise the Lieutenant Governor who is presiding the whole government of the State. Divisions of Andaman and Nicobar Islands There are the administrative divisions to monitor the state in an equal way. The Andaman and Nicobar Islands territory is separated into 3 districts. Each district is sub-divided into sub-divisions and taluks. 1. North and Middle Andaman district Headquarters (Mayabunder) This headquarter governs the Diglipur Sub-Division, Diglipur taluk, Mayabunder Sub-Division,Mayabunder taluk and Rangat taluk 2. South Andaman district Headquarters In this division, the capital city of Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Port Blair is governed. The port Blair division is comprised of Port Blair Sub-Division, Port Blair taluk and Ferrargunj taluk, Little Andaman Sub-Division Little Andaman taluka or the Hut Bay. 3. Nicobar District Headquarters In Nicobar District Headquarters falls Car Nicobar. This headquater is distinguished into Car Nicobar Sub-Division, Car Nicobar taluk, Nancowrie Sub-Division, Nancowrie taluk, Kamorta taluk, Teressa taluk, Katchal taluk, Great Nicobar Sub-Division, Great Nicobar taluk (Campbell Bay), Little Nicobar taluk and Little Nicobar. |
