Right from his childhood Periyar was an atheist. He never believed in the philosophies of Hindu religious texts and was generally regarded as a realistic propagandist, and one who attacked the evils of religious influence on society, mainly what he regarded as Brahmin domination. He was against the evangelical movement of DGS Dinakaran and also fought with him on these issues. He was against evangelical movement of DGS Dinakaran and fought with him on this issue. 's The Precepts of Jesus has had at least an indirect influence on Periyar.
