Borong is located at an altitude of 5,800 feet in the state of South Sikkim. It is one of the most beautiful places to visit in Sikkim. It is only 17 km from Ravalngla and houses a hot spring, which is known as Borong Tsa Chu. Borong has only one place to stay, the cottages of Wild Flower Retreat. The cottages are beautifully within the trees on the steps of the hill. Borong presents the best place to enjoy the views of Kanchenjunga Peak along with other peaks like Siniolchu peak, Narsingh and Mount Pandim. It is the ideal spot for the tourists wishing to enjoy amidst natural beauty. Set in the lap of nature one can catch the impressive and overwhelming sight of the sun kissed snow peaks during sunrise. Borong is home to several species of birds such as scarlet minivet, black magpie and Himalayan pheasants. The tourists can thus enjoy the scenic beauty listening to the chirping of the birds.
Borong is a great place for trekking for the trekkers on their way to Maenam Peak. Being located in the midst of greenery it appears that Borong is laid with a green carpet. One can also enjoy the rich flora here. The Himalayan Mountain Range provides the perfect backdrop to the setting. Other than this, trekking is another activity here, which attracts trekkers from all over the world. Borong provides a good base to those trekking to Maenam Peak. One of the main attractions of Borong is the Ralong Monastery that is located at a distance of 5 km from the place. Tourists can also enjoy head a hot fountain on the banks of River Rangeet. It is situated at a distance of 3 km from Borong. Festivals are also held here on a grand in the month of February at the banks of Rangeet River.
Borong is well connected to the different means of transport. Flights are available to Bagdogra Airport, which is the nearest airport, located in West Bengal. The nearest railhead is New Jalpaiguri, in West Bengal. It is also well connected by road. Tourists can also reach Borong by car from several places like Pelling, Gangtok or Rinchenpong. Borong is a famous tourist spot and is visited by people all the year round.
