Political Career of Bhajan Lal
Bhajan Lal was appointed as the Chief Minister of the northern Indian state of Haryana for 2 separate terms. His first term commenced on 28 June, 1979 and served office till 5 July 1985. He again served as the Chief Minister of the state from 23 July 1991 to 11 May 1996. In his political career, Bhajan Lal also served as a Union Cabinet Minister at the centre, and held the Agriculture as well as Environments and Forest portfolios during the administration of the then Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi. Bhajan Lal was one of the most significant and influential individuals in the political scenario of the princely state of Haryana. He represented the population that belonged to the non-Jat caste in the state. Bhajan Lal was widely considered as a mass leader of the state of Haryana who earned the respect and adoration of every community in the region.
The triumph of the Indian National Congress Party in the elections of Haryana in the year 2005 caused a rift in the unit of the state, as the party decided to make a Jat named Bhupinder Singh Hooda, the Chief Minister of Haryana state instead of Bhajan Lal. In the year 2007, Bhajan Lal formally declared that he would establish a new political party which was known as the Haryana Janhit Congress. This decision of Bhajan Lal was incited by the event of the suspension of Kuldeep Bishnoi, his son, from the Indian National Congress Party. Bishnoi was suspended for criticizing the prime leaders of the Indian National Congress.

Bhajan Lal contested the 2009 elections from the territory of Hissar and overpowered 2 major politicians in Haryana state, namely Jai Parkash and Sampat Singh, in a high profile battle. As aresult of his failure, Professor Sampat Singh decided to resign from INLD after 32 years ties with the Indian National Congress Party.
Personal Life of Bhajan Lal
Bhajan Lal had 2 sons, namely Kuldeep Bishnoi and Chander Mohan Bishnoi. He died on 3 June 2011at a private nursing home in Hisa after a massive heart attack.
