Barughutu is a census town situated in the Hazaribag district in the state of Jharkhand in India. The district headquarters of the Hazaribagh district are located in the town of Hazaribagh. The word Hazaribagh is derived from two Hindi words, hazar and bagh. Hazar means 'one thousand', while bagh means 'garden' - so, the exact meaning of Hazaribagh is 'a city of one thousand gardens'. The city is at a distance of 16 km away.
As per the 2001 India census, Barughutu has a population of 21,091. Males make up 54% of the population and females amount to 46%. Barughutu has an average literacy rate of 70%, higher than the nationwide standard of 59.5%. 59% of the males and 41% of the females are literate. 16% of the population is children below 6 years of age.
