Kalyana Vardharaja Perumal Temple is dedicated to Adhi Vardharaja Perumal. The deity bestows his blessings with Prayoga Chakra. This temple is dedicated to Lord Vishnu. It is believed that this chakra protected King Ambarisha. He was a devotee of Lord Vishnu. He was protected from Sage Durvasa's curse. Thereby with the intervention of Sudarshan chakra the demon was crushed to death. In the temple it is a rare Prayoga state. It is considered that this Chakra was used against Sage Durvasa. This is the reason why no houses were built then on the south side of the street.
As Lord Adhi Vardarja Perumal was powerful Kalyana Varadaraja was also erected in the same Sannadhi. The Panchaloka Utsava idols of this Temple belong to tenth century.
Vaikunta Ekadesi is a popular festival that is celebrated in the temple. Rama Navami is the other festival that is celebrated with great pomp.
This temple was built in the early 19th century by a Vishnu devotee called Paruthiyur Sri Krishna Sastri (1773-1860) popularly known as Ayyaval. He lived during the rule of Serfoji_II Maharaja. Later, this temple became the life of a Mahaan Brahmasri Paruthiyur Krishna Sastri (1855-1911). He was a devotee of Lord Rama. He was responsible in renovating this temple and installed Mahalakshmi, Kodandarama Parivaar sannadhis as well as built the temple tank kodadhandarama Threertham known as the Melakulam.
