Dinesh Gupta was born on 6 December 1911 in Josholong village in Munshiganj District. Dinesh joined Bengal Volunteers. He was in Midnapore as he was training local revolutionaries. They were responsible for the assassination of three District Magistrates: Douglas, Burge and Peddy.
On 8 December 1930, Dinesh along with Benoy Basu and Badal Gupta entered the Writers' Building and shot Simpson. As he was against getting arrested Dinesh shot himself with his own revolver. Dinesh survived and was sentenced to death for being anti government. He was hanged at a young age of nineteen on 7 July 1931 at Alipore Jail.
