Church of the Sacred Heart of Jesus is one of the exemplary historical sites in Puducherry. Painted in white Plaster of Paris and decorated with rare stained glasses this is one of the unique structures that stand at the centre on the Puducherry city. The hundred year old gothic structure has been able to with stand the ravages of time. This is one of the most revered sights in Puducherry that depict the life of the Christ. The building is 50 metres high marked with rose windows, twin spires and a huge exterior which displays the Indo - European architectural style. The interior of the church is decorated with terracotta sculptures and stained glasses that look exemplary and incomparable. The gothic structure has 28 windows which are painted with the images of the reverent saints and the national heroines of France and Joan of Arc.
Church of the Sacred Heart of Jesus is well known for some of the unique structures and statues. The most attractive is the statue of Madonna which is placed on the right side of the high alters. This is rapped in a blue nylon sari. The most attractive part of the church is the intermixing of colours while decorating the church. Along with its majestic gothic structure the church also provides a panoramic view of sunset and sunrise which add to the glory of the church.
Thus with its unique architecture and attractive decoration it is one of the most revered sights in Puducherry which is visited by not only the devotees but also by the tourists who enjoy the calmness of the site.
