Brahmeswara temple is one of the most popular temples of Orissa which can be dated back to the 11th century. Situated at a distance of one kilometre east to the main road of Bhubaneswar it stands amongst four other temples which are placed in the same courtyard. Brahmeswara temple depicts architecture of ancient temples in Orissa which is noted for its sculptures. Like other temples of ancient India, the Brahmeswara temple also includes a tower, and Jagamohana or the porch along with some well maintained sculptures depicting the tales from Hindu mythology. The temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva alongwith other Hindu gods and goddesses like goddess Laksmi who is worshipped in this temple. The temple includes a number of idols of number of gods and goddesses. Dedicated to Lord Shiva this temple includes the tantric style images of Lord Shiva and other gods and goddesses which depict them in one of the fierce form.
Brahmeswara temple is distinctively marked by the beautiful curvatures which decorate the external walls. These are covered with sculpture of various gods and goddesses along with the curvatures of swan and deer, with some religious scenes. Among other sculptures the most attractive is the image of Lord Shiva in his Nataraja style in which he is shown as playing veena sitting above a bull. This is surrounded with a number of images of voluptuous female figures that decorate the external wall of the temple.
Thus Brahmeswara temple is one of the important temples of Orissa which the ancient architecture of Orissa. With its sculptures and curvatures it attract a large number of tourist who visit the along with the Lingaraj temple.
