Murti in Hindu Iconography have a special significance. In Hinduism, in the image of God one can see the spirit of the god. When the image is worshipped it is in fact the god himself who is served in this manner. All the traits of a particular image have a different meaning. The image basically reveals through pose, gesture, clothing and attributes, the aspect of god that is shown and the identity he/she is approaching. It also reveals the mythological history linked to it.
Murti is made of stone, wood, or metal. If the divine is invoked for worshipping then only the Hindus consider a Murti worthy of serving as a focus of divine worship. A Murti is more than a mere resemblance of a deity. It is a manifestation of the deity.
