Sashadhar Mukherjee was a producer in Hindi films and belongs to the distinguished Mukherjee clan of Bollywood. He was Ashok Kumar and Kishore Kumar's brother-in-law and was married to their only sister, Sati Rani. Sashadhar Mukherjee played a vital role in getting Ashok Kumar into films. Sashadhar Mukherjee is the father of Rono Mukherjee, Joy Mukherjee, Shomu Mukherjee, Deb Mukherjee, Shibani Maulik and Subir Mukherjee.
Sashadhar Mukherjee was a producer for Bombay Talkies. In 1943 Mukherjee along with Rai Bahadur Chunilal, Ashok Kumar and Gyan Mukherjee formed a partnership and established the studio Filmistan in Goregaon. In the 1950s Sashadhar formed his own production house and named it Filmalaya in Andheri, near Amboli. Sashadhar Mukherjee also supervised an acting school and trained actresses like Asha Parekh and Sadhana and helped them to enter into films. Nasir Hussain, the director was involved with Sashadhar Mukherjee's productions along with R. K. Nayyar and Gyan Mukherjee. Music director OP Nayyar was also associated with his solo productions. Sashadhar Mukherjee launched his son Joy Mukherjee in the film ‘Love in Shimla’. He also produced films like ‘Ek Musafir Ek Hasina’ to further his son’s career. His last production was Dilip Kumar's ‘Leader’.
