Farooq Sheikh, Bollywood ActorFarooq Sheikh was born on March 25, 1948. Farooq Shaikh was born to Mustafa Shaikh, a Mumbai Lawyer and Farida Shaikh in Amroli District. He belonged to family of zamindari system, and he grew up in a plush surroundings. He was eldest of the five children. Farooq Shaikh did his education from St Mary`s School, Mumbai and then was admitted to St. Xavier`s College, Mumbai. He studied Law at Siddharth College of Law and finally attended the Film and Television Institute of India, Pune. He is an Indian actor, who did most of his films during the 1970s and 1980s. Farooq Shaikh married Rupa Jain and has two daughters Shaista and Sanaa.

Film career of Farooq Sheikh
During the early years of career, Farooq Shaikh was active in theatre, doing plays with IPTA and with well-known directors like Sagar Sarhadi. His first major film role was in the 1973 film Garam Hawa. He further proceeded with several notable films such as Shatranj Ke Khiladi (1977), Noorie (1979), Chashme Buddoor (1981), Kissi Se Na Kehna (1983), Noorie (1979), Umrao Jaan (1981) and many others. He made his last film appearance in Mohabbat (1997). He made a comeback to films in 2008 and appeared in Saas Bahu Aur Sensex (2008) and Lahore (2009). Farooq Shaikh was best known for his major contribution in Parallel Cinema or New Indian Cinema. He worked with directors like Satyajit Ray, Muzaffar Ali, Hrishikesh Mukherjee and Ketan Mehta.

The acting skills of Farooq Shaikh can also be seen in many comedies on television and his performances on stage in famous productions such as Tumhari Amrita which was directed by Feroz Abbas Khan. He also hosted a television show Jeena Isi Ka Naam Hai (Season 1) where he interviewed celebrities on the show. He starred in the comedy serial, Chamatkar on Sony TV Channel and Ji Mantri Ji on STAR Plus. Farooq Sheikh was awarded the 2010 National Film Award for Best Supporting Actor for Lahore.
