Moushumi Chatterji was an actress of repute in India during the 1960s and 1970s. Moushumi Chatterjee was born in Kolkata in April 26 to father Prantosh Chattopadhyaya who was in the Army. She had a sister and a brother. Moushumi married Jayant, son of famous, late singer Hemant Kumar Mukhopadyay and the couple have two daughters, Payal and Meghna. She started to act in movies post her marriage, which was thought to be quite unusual for women during that time.
Film Career of Moushumi Chatterji
Moushumi Chatterji was introduced to movie audiences in 1967 in a Bengali movie Balika Badhu directed by Tarun Majumdar.
The directors noticed her acting skills since then. Moushumi Chatterji reached the summit of her career in the 70's and early 80's. During this era, she starred opposite heroes such as Amitabh Bachchan and Jitendra, Dharmendra. Moushumi Chatterji received Filmfare nominations as Best Actress for Anuraag (1972). In this film, she played a blind girl. Mousumi delivered a powerhouse performance in the movie Roti Kapda Aur Makaan where she played the character of a rape survivor. She won the award for Best Supporting Actress for the movie. In her peak years, she appeared opposite prominent stars like Vinod Khanna in Kachche Dhaage Amitabh, Shashi Kapoor, Zeenat Aman in Roti,Kapada Aur Makaan, Amitabh Bachchan in Benaam and Manzil.
Moushumi Chatterji is still seen in Bollywood in movies, but not at the same pace as in the beginning of her career. She acted with her youngest daughter, Megha, in her daughter's debut movie, titled Bhalo Bashar Onek Naam directed by Tarun Majumdar. He is the same person who directed Moushmi Chatterji's very first movie, Balika Badhu.
