Khandavaprastha was once a capital but was destroyed by a curse. No one could live here. Nothing could grow, not even animals could exist. Such a terrible wasteland was given to Yudhisthir as his share of the Kuru land. Khandavaprastha was a great forest full of birds and beasts. It was home of the Nagas as well as the Rakshasas. Khandavaprastha was not really a place that should belong to a royal family, it was a wasteland. This place was set fire by Krishna and Arjuna. On this empty land the Pandavas built Indraprastha, the capital city. The Pandavas went to their new capital and looked at the desolate country spread out in front of them. Krishna gave the responsibility to convert the land into a living and a fertile beautiful place. From then on, it will be called Indraprastha, since life would be given to it. They built a palace and worked on the city. The people living there were very happy and satisfied. This article is a stub. You can enrich by adding more information to it.
