The company name was changed from Sri Adhikari Brothers News and Television Network Limited to Broadcast Initiatives Limited with effect from May 18, 2006. The company received permission dated August 23, 2005 from the Ministry of Information & Broadcasting permitting to uplink the TV channel Janmat (in Hindi and English languages in digital mode) from India from INSAT-2E for a period of 10 years. The channel has qualified and experienced skilled manpower including engineers. The skills of employees' give the flexibility to adapt to the needs of various program and content. Their management team is qualified and experienced in industry and has been responsible for execution of diversified content. Television Personalities like Vir Sanghvi, Shekhar Suman, Alka Saxena, Rahul Dev, Harish Gupta, Umesh Upadhyay, Swati Chaturvedi, Shweta Ranjan, Mehar Bhasin are part of the channels team. The channel has a wide distribution network too. But considering the language fact the channels distribution activities have been concentrated more in the Northern, Western & Eastern India at the moment. Since the test launch from November 2005, Janmat has achieved a growth of around 104% in GRPs. Janmat is positioned as a views channel. It is an attempt to inform the common mass about his rights, duties & powers as a citizen of India through a series of well-position programs. The channel provides a platform to the common people to address issues that are unfavourable to the society at large. In fact, AMT, Active Media Technology, a company providing SMS interactivity based solutions for the broadcast media, has inked a pact with Janmat channel to power its entire range of participative shows, making it the most interactive news and current affairs channel in India. The channel's USP is its focus on news analysis through viewers' participation. 70% of shows in this channel are based on interactions with the audience, wherein viewers shall be allowed to participate through a variety of interactive media. The channel is a free-to-air channel but the company is bearing losses due to the cluster of other news channels, which people prefer to watch to Janmat. Unlike other pay channels in the news space, the company may not benefit from a monetisation of viewer ship, because of the implementation of CAS. The company has tied up with NDTV media to manage its airtime sales. It has also tied up with Jump TV, an IPTV (Internet Protocol Television) broadcaster, to take its channel online, after the IPO.
