Janmat is positioned as a views channel. It is an attempt to inform the common mass about his rights, duties & powers as a citizen of India through a series of well-position programs. The channel provides a platform to the common people to address issues that are unfavourable to the society at large. The channel's tag line says it all- 'Aapka channel, Aapka matt'- your channel, your vote.
The channel seeks to explore, analyse and offer insight into thought provoking issues of common people, speak to the concerned authorities, highlight the plight of the victims and report the changes effected. The channel also featured a reality talent show, in a unique attempt to find three fine news anchors in India. The presenters of the channel combine the roles of the traditional TV news journalist and a VJ. It is expected. About 70% of the total programming content of Janmat is expected to be interactive, with audience involvement. Janmat also features social and political analyses, crime, lifestyle etc.
Janmat is considered as India's most interactive channels. In fact, AMT, Active Media Technology, a company providing SMS interactivity based solutions for the broadcast media, has inked a pact with Janmat channel to power its entire range of participative shows, making it the most interactive news and current affairs channel in India. The channel's USP is its focus on news analysis through viewers' participation. 70% of shows in this channel are based on interactions with the audience, wherein viewers shall be allowed to participate through a variety of interactive media.
The channel is a free-to-air channel but the company is bearing losses due to the cluster of other news channels, which people prefer to watch to Janmat. Unlike other pay channels in the news space, the company may not benefit from a monetisation of viewer ship, because of the implementation of CAS. The company has tied up with NDTV media to manage its airtime sales. It has also tied up with Jump TV, an IPTV (Internet Protocol Television) broadcaster, to take its channel online, after the IPO. This may provide an additional stream of subscription revenue.
