Hari Sena, the king of the western branch, became the king of the main branch of Vatakata Dynasty.

Prithivi Sena II had no son and he was the last ruler of the chief branch of the Vakatakas. After his death his kingdom went in the hands of western branch of the Vakatakas. This branch was established by Sarva Sena, who was the son of Prithvi Sena I. Since then this branch had been ruling along with the main branch. As Prithvi Sena had no son, Hari Sena, the king of the western branch, became the king of the main branch as well. Hari Sena was a brave and powerful ruler. It is known from Ajanta inscription that he had conquered Gujrati, Malva, Andhra and Kuntal provinces, to establish friendly relations with Hari Sena. Andhra king Vikrainendra married his son Madhava Varman with the Vakataka -princess. Thus his empire included Berar, Madhya Pradesh, Chhatisgarh, Hyderabad, Malva, Gujarat, Maharoshpura, northern kosala and Andhra Pradesh. His empire extended to Malwa in the north Kuntal in the south. Bay of Bengal in the east and Arabian Sea in the west. He was fortunate to have an able minister in Varaadeva who has the credit of excavating some of the Ajanta caves during the reign of Hari Sena; the Vakataka Empire has reached its zenith.
