Chebulic myroblan is a marvellous herb and is thought as a longevity elixir. It is the fruit of a middle-sized or large tree, with egg-shaped long leaves of about 10 to 20 cm and dreary white flowers in spikes at the end of its branches. The fruit, 2 to 4 cm long, has five distinctive ribs on its body.

Chebulic myroblan is an accepted remedial of piles. The fresh fruits should be deep-fried to a golden brown colour in castor oil, fine-grained and preserved. A dilute decoction of chebulic myroblan used as an eye-lotion helps to alleviate eye clogging. The fruit being astringent, lessens swelling and inflammation.

A thick paste of chebulic myroblan applied over the inflammation is a splendid remedy for treating mumps.

Vaginitis healed by Chebulic myroblan
A decoction of the herb is useful in vaginal irritation and inflammation. It should be used as a douche to wash the vulval parts. When there is thick white discharge, cleansing the part with a decoction prepared with neem leaves and chebulic myroblan fruits will help.

Precautions- The use of chebulic myroblan should be averted during pregnancy as it may induce miscarriage.

Other Uses of Chebulic myroblan
Hair Tonic- The herb is useful as a hair revitaliser. A paste of the fruit is boiled in coconut oil till its kernel completely resolves in the oil. This oil used regularly furnishes strength to hair roots. Cheublic myroblan decoction is a popular hair rinse, which many Indian women use to melanise grey hair.

Sweets and pickles based on chebulic myroblan are commonly eaten in Indian households. They are thought to be digestive and mildly purgative.

Composition
Chebulic myroblan is native to India. It has been in use in Indian medicinal system for a pretty long time. Physicians in ancient India used it for treating diarrhoea, dysentery, pyrosis, flatulence, dyspepsia, liver and spleen disorders.

The fruit of chebulic myroblan contains an astringent matter. The astringency is because of the characteristic principle of chebulinic acid. It also contains tannic acid, gallic acid, resin and some laxative principle of the nature of anthraquinone.
