![]() Synopsis of 'Saawariya' Ranbir Raj played by Ranbir Kapoor is a happy-go-lucky guy and a dreamer. He arrives in a place surrounded by mountains, shrouded in mist and enveloped in beauty, mythical enough to be a painter's vision or a poet's memory. He joins a Swankiest Club named RK as a lead singer. He meets Gulabji played by Rani Mukerji. She falls for him because of his innocence. After staying there for some days one night he sees a mystical girl in a black dress. She was standing alone on a bridge. She has an umbrella in her hand. When Raj tries to start a conversation with the girl she runs away. Soon they become friends and the girl reveals her name as Sakina played by Sonam Kapoor. She carries sadness in her eyes and all her activities. This Sakina is a shy and quiet, melancholic and enigmatic girl. Ranbir is so mesmerized that every time he goes on discussing about the girl with his land owner, Lillian played by Zohra Sehgal and also with Gulabji. ![]() Their story runs smoothly while Lillian and Gulabji constantly interferes in the story. Eventually Sakina gives a letter to Ranbir for Imaan but he does not give him out of jealousy. But soon Ranbir admitted her about the truth and confesses his tremendous love to her. At some point of time she decides that she can come to Ranbir. But she still thinks that Imaan will come and take her with him. At that night when Imaan promised to come she goes to that bridge and finds Imaan standing there. She leaves Ranbir with a heavy heart at one side and happy in one side as Imaan has come. She goes to Imaan who tells him that he has come for good and Sakina doesn't need to cry anymore. Ranbir is shattered and the film ends with a mixed feeling for the two protagonists as well. The film is directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali while it is produced by Columbia Tristar and SLB Films. The film is written by Prakash Kapadia, which is based on the short story 'White Nights' by Fyodor Dostoevsky. The music of the film is given by Monty Sharma together with Sanjay Leela Bhansali while cinematography is done by Ravi K. Chandran.
