Vajra Bhairava Shrine is a 'tantric' guardian deity of the Gelugpa order. Vajra Bhairava Shrine, Spituk, Leh, Jammu & Kashmir is considered to possess supernatural powers. The unusualness of this shrine is that the deity is unveiled only once in a year. For the remaining year, it is kept inside a chamber. There are paintings that go back over 600 years on the walls of the temple. It is Spituk's oldest building. Mahakal Temple, Spituk Monastery and Spituk Gustor are the major attractions in the vicinity. Vajra Bhairava Shrine is situated in Spituk, about 10km from Leh.
