History of Acharya Jagadish Chandra Bose College
In the year 1968, Birla College of Science and Birla College of Education were established as two separate colleges. Later, in 1969 the two colleges were amalgamated into one college under the name of Birla College of Science and Education. On August 1978, the Birlas officially handed over the college to Late. Prof. Shambhu Ghosh, the Minister-In-Charge for higher education. As there was no connection to Birlas with the college after this settlement, higher authority of the college took the decision of changing its name. So, on 1st July 1987, the name of the college was changed from Birla College of Science and Education to Acharya Jagadish Chandra Bose College under the affiliation of Calcutta University.

There are four academic departments-Science, Arts, Commerce and B.Ed. Science department consisting of Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, Zoology, Physiology, Botany, Computer Science and Statistics. Arts is consists of Bengali, English, Hindi, Urdu, Economics, Political Science and Education.
