Nirmithi Kendra, Idukki DistrictNirmithi Kendra is a ten years old agency under the Chairmanship of District Collector. The work of this Kendra is mainly to develop and propagate cost effective alternate and energy efficient technologies in the field of Habitat and Micro Hydro Electric Projects. This Kendra has executed the projects of the tribal buildings to hospitals and town halls. Some of the fields where Nirmithi Kendra is having expertise are, Sanitation, Water Supply and Water Harvesting.

The main objectives of District Nirmithi Kendra are:

•To serve as seminal agency to generate and propagate, innovative cost-effective ideas in housing.


•A clearing house of information and data bank on housing which would bring the fruits of research from lab to land.


•A production center of pre fabricated standardized housing materials


•A training house to impart skills to local workman innovative housing techniques and to create a cadre of trained workers in all the blocks in the District.


•A model agency to serve as a catalyst in the field of housing ensuring co-ordination in implementation of housing programs


•A chair of retail outlets for low cost housing materials.


•An R&D institute & consultant in the field of housing.


•Providing training to locals, beneficiaries, physicians, supervisors, technocrats, engineers and architects in the practicing trades.


•To take execution of projects for the demonstration and propagation of technologies.
