Early Life of S. P. Balasubrahmanyam
Since his childhood, Balasubrahmanyam started exhibiting his talent in music. He learnt to play the notations on instruments such as harmonium and flute by his own. In order to fulfil the wish of his father of becoming an engineer, he moved to Ananthpur, where he registered formally for the AMIE course in JNTU. But side by side he didnt stop to pursue his passion, and for that Balasubrahmanyam started participating in singing competitions and received well appreciation as a skilled singer.
Career of S. P. Balasubrahmanyam
In the year 1964, he took part in a music competition organized by a Madras-based 'Telugu Cultural Organisation'. The competition was organized for amateur singers. He won the first prize and since then there was no looking back. Acknowledging his talent, music director S.P. Kodandapani took him under his wing. Then onwards he embarked on his career in playback singing mainly for Telugu, Tamil, Kannada and Malayalammovies. But before delving into fulltime playback singing, S. P. Balasubrahmanyam, together with his close friends started up a band. His list includes- Anirutta (worked with Corporation and was the harmonium artist), Illayaraja, his brother Baskar and another brother Gangai Amaran. As a singer in film music, Balasubrahmanyam made his debut with the movie Sri Sri Sri Maryada Ramanna. Today he is a proud man who has recorded more than 39,000 songs. Though most of the songs sung by were tough, yet he forked out songs in languages like Telugu, Tamil, Kannada, Hindi and Malayalam. He has achieved a place for himself in the Guinness Book of World Records for 'having sung the most number of songs recorded by any singer'.

S. P. Balasubrahmanyam is reckoned the most gifted singer who possesses 'incredible vocal range, deep rich voice, and mastery of style, technique and control'. This made him achieve supremacy over various genres of Indian music. Today he is considered as the most sought after playback singer. He has sung 17 songs in just 12 hours in recording studios. S. P. Balasubrahmanyam is outstanding in rendering classical music also. Songs in films like Sankarabharanam, Sagara Sangamam, Rudra Veena were completely Carnatic songs. He has also sung Hindustani classical music with his song 'Umandu Ghumandu' for the movie 'Ganayogi Panchakshari Gavayi'. Balasubrahmanyam has been ruling the world of playback singing for the past 30 years.

But they were very much in love with each other at that time. So they eloped and got married with the help of his friends Ilaiyaraaja, Bhaskar, Anirutta and Gangai Amaren at Simhachalam, Andhra Pradesh. Today they own a production company Capital Film Works.
