This Zoological Park is spread over an area of three hundred and eighty acres in area. Nehru Zoological Park in Hyderabad was established on 26th October 1959 with a view to develop as a "Modern Zoo" with simulated natural environment. It was inaugurated on 6th October 1963.

Nehru Zoological Park in Hyderabad plays a pivotal role for the other upcoming zoos. It receives grants from the Government of Andhra Pradesh for the maintenance of the zoo. The aim of the zoo is to make a scientific study of animal behaviour and disseminating knowledge to the people about peaceful coexistence of wildlife and human life.

Nehru Zoological Park has some notable indigenous animal species like the Indian Rhino, Asiatic Lion, Panther, Gaur, Orangutan, Crocodile, and Python etc.

Nehru Zoological Park also has several species of birds as well. The uneven landscape of Nehru Zoological Park provides a natural setting to the animals and birds. The Miralam Tank in the zoo spread over an area of six hundred acres attracts hundreds of migratory birds. The zoo runs different safari trips every day like Lion safari, Tiger safari, Bear safari and butterfly safari.

One can also enjoy elephant rides in the zoo. Other attractions in the zoo include a museum and a children"s train.

Nehru Zoological Park is a must visit place for all those who can walk around for 6-7 hours to cover the entire zoo which is on 300 acres of land. It has a span of 300 lush green acres of land. Nehru Zoological Park in Telangana offers both the nature tourism and the leisure tourism activities to the tourists.

Nehru Zoological Park has over 250 species of animals and birds, most of which are kept in conditions as close to their natural habitats as possible. This is the first zoo to create enclosures for animals. The Lion Safari Park, Natural History Museum and Children`s Train are the added attractions.
