It is an example of a panchayat town lying in the Salem district of the state of the country. Nangavalli lies in the southeastern part of Mettur of the same district.

To sustain their livelihood many of them have adapted to the practice of cultivation. Crops that are produced in Nangavalli are millets, cereals, rice, pulses, sugarcane (gur), groundnut, cotton and many more. Other professions like animal husbandry, fisheries are quite prevalent in this district.
